Ed Burke, Phil Salmon, Mike Lynch and Bill Doyle filled trays of paper plates and Styrofoam containers with free hot food that was prepared by other volunteers and then they placed the trays on a nearby counter for the hungry to eat or to take with them.
The program serves free meals from 6:30-9:30 a.m. each weekday.
About a dozen people, including students from Holy Cross and WPI, volunteer to feed those in need at St. John’s each day. All volunteers are welcomed.
Each morning, the volunteers stop cooking and serving for a few minutes to pray in the dining room with the hungry. The volunteers prepare an average of 400 servings an hour for three hours each weekday morning. That adds up to 6,000 servings per week.
